Why do UPS trucks turn off their engines all the time, but 18 wheelers never turn off their engines? Why do UPS trucks turn off their engines all the time, but 18 wheelers never turn off their engines? UPS are like regular hauling trucks, they probaly wanna save gas, semis are actually running off there 2nd engine*to run electronics and air conditioning and several other things Most UPS trucks are gas not diesel. Turning off a gas engine saves gas. Turning off a diesel wast gas as it take more fuel to start a diesel then letting it run. Besides if a diesel gets cold it is very hard to start as a gas truck will start right up. Auto parts : Gloves Acura 1995 . Goggles Alfa Romeo 1996 . Grab Handle Audi 1997 . Grease BMW 1998 . I went outside yesterday to move my Rover 25 onto the driveway, and gave it a 'friendly' wash down. Now the car started up just fine, and moved from the street onto the driveway with no problems. I then gave it a quick once-over with the hose, scrubbed it down, and hosed it down again. I then went to start up the car, and found that it wouldn't start - when I turn the key, all I get is a rapid clicking sound, coming from the engine. I thought at first it might be the battery, so I've only just popped that onto charge - but I noticed that the 'fully charged' light is lit (Might be a faulty light...?) on the charger. Could it just be a duff battery, or something more sinister? Also, I'm not gifted with cars - so long words and technical gizamobobs will just confuse me! car insurance. Mercury . How do I Replace Rear Wheel Studs on a Toyota Camry?Wheel studs, or lug bolts, are the posts on which tires are mounted. Rear wheel stress on a Toyota Camry can sometimes cause the wheel stud to break. The studs also can become stripped. Either of these conditions will require the wheel studs to be replaced. Difficulty:Moderate Instructions Things You'll Need Lug wrench Jack Jack stands Spray lubricant Hammer Replacement wheel studs New set of lug nutsSuggest EditsItem AddWhy is it necessary?Done Step by Step : 1 Engage the emergency brake. 2 Loosen the lug nuts on the wheel where the studs will be replaced. 3 Jack up the rear end of the Camry. Place jack stands under the rear frame and lower the vehicle onto them. 4 Remove the lug nuts with the lug wrench. 5 Remove the rear brake drum. It may be difficult to remove the brake drum if it is rusty or corroded. If this is the case, spray some lubricant, such as WD-40, on it and gently tap it from behind with a hammer until it jiggles loose. 6 Remove the old wheel studs by pounding the outer tip with a hammer. 7 Insert the new wheel studs into the wheel stud holes. Insert them from the back of the wheel hub with the tip facing out. 8 Place lug nuts on the bolts and tighten the lug nuts. The force of tightening the lug nuts down will pull the wheel stud forward and seat it correctly into the wheel stud hole. 9 Remove the lug nuts once the studs are seated firmly. Step by Step : 10 Replace the brake drum. Step by Step : 11 Replace the wheel and tighten the lug nuts. Tips & Warnings Place the new wheel studs in the freezer for 24 hours before installing them. This will make them contract slightly. After they are installed they will expand again, making for a tighter fit. Suggest item Thanks for suggesting an item. Tip Warning ItemAdd Item Done
Mercury . How to Change a Rear Drive Shaft SealThe rear drive shaft of a car wears down with age. When it starts to leak oil, it is time to replace the seal. Seal replacement kits come with most, if not all, of the parts that are needed to change out the gaskets of the seal. Rear drive shaft seals can be replaced in the garage at home. Difficulty:Moderately Challenging Instructions Things You'll Need Drive axle seal Paper cover gasket Screwdriver Seal or gasket puller tool Needle-nose pliers 13mm socket wrench Crowbar Gear oil Seal driver Gear sealer Brake cleaner Gasket scraper Paper towel RTV silicone gasket maker Torque measure meter Step by Step : 1 Remove the side flange of the drive shaft by prying it off with a screwdriver. Pull the flange out. Check the axle flange metal where the seal lip has polished it to see if it is worn or scratched. Replace the axle flange if the metal is in bad condition. 2 Insert the seal or gasket puller tool, placing it under the gasket and prying it out of the drive shaft. Use the needle-nose pliers to remove the C-clip. 3 Remove the nuts from the axle flange cups with a socket wrench. Take care when you pry them off with a crowbar to note where each shim is located so that you can put them back in the proper order. Pull off the differential carrier cover. Pull the bearing cup out of it. 4 Remove the shim on the bearing cup and it set aside. Replace the O-ring by gently prying it off of the cup with a pencil and pulling it off. Slide the new O-ring into place and then rub gear oil onto it. 5 Place a light layer of gear sealer around the outside of the metal ring of the replacement seal. Tap the seal into place with a seal driver. 6 Clean off the shim mounting face with the brake cleaner and a gasket scraper. Wipe the surface off with paper towel. Push the bearing cup back into place by lifting up the differential carrier and sliding it over the side bearing. 7 Put the bolts back on in a crisscross alternating pattern. The torque for the bolts should be 16 foot-pounds of torque. 8 Insert the new C-clip with the needle-nose pliers. Reattach the axle flange, sliding it into place by gently turning it as you push until the splines fit together and the C-clip locks into place. 9 Clean off the cover gasket surface with brake cleaner and a gasket scraper. Put the paper cover gasket onto the gasket surface. Run a small bead of RTV silicone gasket maker onto the paper gasket cover. Put the cover back on and secure into place with bolts, installing them in a crisscross pattern at 33 foot-pounds of torque. Tips & Warnings Check the torque of the bolts before you remove them, and write their numbers down so that you can put them back on when you are finished at the same amount to prevent damaging the driver. Their torque may be different than what is listed here. Use protective eye wear and gloves to prevent injury. *cc The following steps explain the proper way to use a specification sheet to obtain the right parts for your vehicle: 1. Armed with your Specifications Record containing the information about your vehicle, look up your vehicle by make and model under the proper year on the spec sheet at the store. For my first car, Tweety Bird, I looked under 1967, then under Ford, then under Mustang, then under "200 cu. in. 6 Cyl. Eng. (1 bbl.)" — which means that Tweety had an engine displacement of 200 cubic inches, a 6-cylinder engine, and a single-barrel carburetor. . Chapter 12: Keeping Your Electrical System in Tune 27 2. Write down the following information from the spec sheet at the store in the appropriate columns on your Specifications Record: If you're just changing spark plugs, here's all you need: • Spark plug gap: The proper space there should be between the center and side electrodes of each spark plug. 494

Jot down the proper part numbers given for your vehicle's points, condenser, distributor cap, and rotor on your Specifications Record. The points and condenser are sometimes packaged together as a tune-up kit. You may not need to replace the cap and rotor now, but the data will be handy when you do. Changing \four Spark Ptuqs How often you replace spark plugs depends on the type of plugs you have. You may have 30,000-mile plugs, or — if the plugs have platinum tips — they may be good for up to 100,000 miles. (For detailed information about what spark plugs do, see Chapter 5.) Finding your spark plugs Of course, before you can change your spark plugs, you have to find them. Look for a set of thick wires (or thin cables) that enter your engine block in neat rows — on both sides if you have a V-6 or V-8 engine, or on one side if you have a straight 4- or 6-cylinder engine (also called an in-line engine). These spark-plug wires run from the distributor (or ignition coil) to the spark plugs. O t O Part III: Keeping Your Car in Good Condition, System by System Mercury . Before you take care of your spark plugs, you must understand what the terms cylinder sequence and firing order mean. Cylinder sequence The cylinder sequence of an engine is the order in which the cylinders of the engine are numbered. This sequence varies from one type of vehicle to another, depending on whether it has front-wheel drive or rear-wheel drive and whether the vehicle has a "straight" (sometimes called "in-line") engine, a V-type engine, or a transverse engine. Here are cylinder sequences for all of these: In all U.S.-made straight 4- and 6-cylinder vehicles with rear-wheel drive, the cylinder nearest the front of the car is called the #1 cylinder. The numbering for the rest of the cylinders (#2, #3, #4, and so on) runs in sequence back toward the firewall at the rear of the engine compartment (see Figures 12-2 and 12-3). Some foreign-built cars reverse the cylinder sequence. The #1 cylinder is at the rear, near the firewall. If you have a foreign car and no owner's manual, ask your local dealer where your #1 cylinder is. Cylinder sequence Mercury .
